HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-134-3532 Appointment to Affordable Housing Advisory Committee RESOLUTION NO. 2020-134-3532 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, APPOINTING COUNCIL MEMBER KATRINA WILSON TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE (AHAC); PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City receives an annual allocation of SHIP funding, which is contingent upon an active Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC), and WHEREAS, The purpose of the AHAC is to evaluate and make recommendations of affordable housing activities and incentives to the City Council, and WHEREAS, The AHAC must be comprised of an 8 to 11 member committee of professionals that represent various industry categories such as: residential home building, banking or mortgage, for-profit and/or non-profit affordable housing providers, real estate, essential services, and government representatives, and WHEREAS, currently the City's AHAC Has 10 Members, and WHEREAS, during the State's 2020 legislative session, Florida House Bill 1339 — Community Affairs legislation was passed and signed by the governor on June 10, 2020, and put in to effect on July 1 , 2020, and WHEREAS, HB 1339 included updates and modifications to the SHIP program, including those that govern the AHAC: "Effective October 1, 2020, the committee must consist of one locally elected official from each county or municipality participating in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program", and WHEREAS, an additional provision requires attendance at several annual training sessions as follows: "The locally elected official serving on an advisory committee, or a locally elected designee, must attend biannual regional workshops convened and administered under the Affordable Housing Catalyst Program as provided in s. 420.531(2), and WHEREAS, to be in compliance with Florida HB 1339 — Community Affairs legislation, staff recommends the City appoint an elected official to sit on the Miami Gardens AHAC. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: APPOINTMENT: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby appoints Councilwoman Katrina Wilson to sit on the Miami Gardens Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC). Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
