A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE NAMING THE
PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL AT HARD ROCK STADIUM IN HONOR
OF MR. RONALD BOOK; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION
OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council previously adopted Resolution #2016-125-3024,
accepting funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the
construction of pedestrian bridges and tunnels in and around Hard Rock Stadium,
Resolution #2017-192-3297, whereby the City Council agreed to take ownership of the
bridges and tunnels, and
WHEREAS, at the November 13, 2019 meeting, the City Council named the two
pedestrian bridges after Mayor Oliver Gilbert III and Senator Oscar Braynon II for their
contributions to the City of Miami Gardens and advocacy towards the Hard Rock
Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ronald Book worked with Senator Oscar Braynon II and Mayor
Oliver Gilbert to secure funding for the Hard Rock Pedestrian Safety Improvements
Project, and
WHEREAS, Senator Oscar Braynon and Mayor Oliver Gilbert are recommending
that the City of Miami Gardens name the tunnel in honor of Mr. Ronald Book, due to the
fact that the project, was realized as a result of Mr. Book's work in securing funding for
the project,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas
paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby
made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: APPROVAL. The City Council hereby approves the naming of a
pedestrian bridge at Hardrock Stadium to the Ronald Book Tunnel.
Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its final passage.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
GARDENS AT ITS SPECIAL VIRTUAL MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 14, 2020.
