HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-108-3506 Ratifying the 2020 General Election RESOLUTION NO. 2020-108-3506 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE ELECTION RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON AUGUST 18, 2020, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND A COUNCIL MEMBER FOR RESIDENTIAL AREA SEATS 1 AND 3, AND AT-LARGE SEAT 5; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAID ELECTIONS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and the Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board have examined the election results of the City of Miami Gardens Elections held on August 28, 2018, as certified by the Supervisor of Elections, and WHEREAS, the Supervisor of Elections has declared the election results to be proper and correct, having counted and recorded the absentee ballots in the manner provided by law, and WHEREAS, the total votes casted in said election for each candidate is as follows: For Miami Gardens Mayor, the -whole number of votes cast was 22,990 of which: Candidate Votes Received Lisa C. Davis 4,021 Lavern Deer 1,643 Rodney Harris 9,665 Sharon Pritchett 7,661 For Miami Gardens Residential Area Council Members Seat 1, the whole number of votes cast was 4,590 of which: Candidate Votes Received Elvis Austin Caines 666 Shannon Campbell 2,113 Myles Houston 345 Nat Spooky Miller 288 Robert Stephens 1 ,178 For Miami Gardens Residential Area Council Member Seat 3, the whole number of votes cast was 6,634: Candidate Votes Received Shannan "Lady" 2,700 Ighodaro Thera Johnson- 1,716 Jones Patricia "Pat" Wright 2,218 For Miami Gardens At-Large Council Member Seat 5, the whole number of votes cast was 22,703 of which: Candidate Votes Received Anthony M. Butler 2,152 Raymond Carvil 1,378 Linda Julien 6,922 Arbie Jerome 488 Nickerson Jr. Francis Dave Ragoo 2,527 Phyllis W. Simpkins 1 ,830 Andre Williams 7,406 Miami Gardens Referendum "Shall Section 2.6 of the City Charter be amended to provide that the City Council shall determine the annual salary and professional expenses of the Mayor and Council Members by Ordinance at budget time? An Ordinance fixing the salaries and professional expenses of the Mayor and City Council shall only be considered every five (5) years." Yes for approval - 14,038 votes No for rejection - 7,353 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: RATIFICATION OF RESULTS: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby ratifies the results of the election as certified by the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections. There will be a Run-Off election on November 3, 2020, for Council Member Residential Area Seat 1, Seat 3 and At-Large Seat 5. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
