HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-107-3505 Next City Network RESOLUTION NO. 2020-107-3505 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AND ATTEST RESPECTIVELY THAT CERTAIN AGREEMENT WITH NEXT CITY NETWORK, A SUBSIDIARY OF NEXTERA ENERGY, FOR UPGRADES TO STREET LIGHTING; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on April 12, 2017, the City Council for the City of Miami Gardens ("City") adopted Resolution number 2017 — 74 — 2179 expressing its desire to transfer control of special lighting taxing districts from Miami-Dade County to the City of Miami Gardens, and WHEREAS, in the last two years, the City has acquired control over many Streetlight Special Taxing Districts, and WHEREAS, the City has a non-exclusive franchise agreement with Florida Power & Light ("FPL"), and WHEREAS, FPL retro-fitted all existing lighting with LED fixtures and lamps in the acquired Streetlight Special Taxing Districts, and WHEREAS, the City desires to also incorporate cameras, and other features into these fixtures, and WHEREAS, City Staff recommends that the City Council authorizes the agreement with Next City Network, a subsidiary of Florida Power and Light, allowing the City to incorporate cameras, and other features into fixtures in lighting districts and to manage assets and resources more efficiently, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1 : ADOPTION OF REPRESENTATIONS: The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: AUTHORIZATION: The City Council of the City of Miami Gardens hereby authorizes the City Manager and the City Clerk to execute and attest respectively that certain agreement with Next City Network, a subsidiary of Florida Power and Light, for upgrades to street lighting. Section 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage.
